My mom has been in a memory care facility here in San Diego for the past 4 years.  I have seen her slowly decline and slip away from the woman I knew.  She no longer speaks and lives in a wheelchair or her recliner that’s in her room.  I recently had to order her a hospital bed, to better assist her caregivers when they put her in bed and remove her.

Dementia is a disease I don’t wish on anyone.  It has surprised me that my mom has dementia, since neither of her parents had anything like that.

But she does and my job is to be there for her, support her and simply love her.

Since she no longer speaks, I sense her communication through her eyes and her laughter.  She also sometimes squeezes my hand when I speak with her or blink a little longer than normal.

But just the other day, I got to experience a MIRACULOUS MOMENT.

We were sitting in her room and she ‘out of the blue’ said ‘Wendy.’  I have to say, I was a bit startled, since she had not spoken words in a very long time.  I just looked at her and thanked her.  And then, a few minutes later, she said ‘Wendy’ again.

Who would know how that miraculous moment would feel!  One word, my name.

And then I was with her two days later.  I was preparing to leave.  I always kiss my mom, typically a peck on the lips.  This time was no different.

And as I gave her a little kiss, I said ‘I love you Mom.’  And she REPLIED “I love you.”

My heart was so happy to hear words come out of her mouth!  Her caregiver was also in the room and he was shocked, since he hadn’t heard my mom speak a word in months.  He also said he had never heard her say that before.

I recognize these moments were truly miraculous.

But it also shows that simple moments can also be seen and experienced as miraculous.

So I have decided to rename my blog MIRACULOUS MOMENTS.

Isn’t it time to look a little closer at the miracles of our lives?  How much are you possibly taking for granted?  What might you be missing?

Think about your heart.  Have you ever seen it in action?  I have.  I had an echocardiogram a couple of years ago and was shocked to see how hard that little heart of mine was working each and every second.  I can still see that image in my mind.

Each and every day we have miracles in and all around us.

What might be some of the miracles you have in your life RIGHT THIS VERY MOMENT?

I am not different than anyone else.  I KNOW what it’s like to need a miracle!  Sometimes I have the tendency to take life a little too much for granted.  Sometimes I forget that life can be miraculous.  Sometimes I question if miracles are even possible!

I must admit, I’m not sure what I’ll be writing each week…but I guess we’ll find out!

ONE THING I’VE DECIDED:  I will be interviewing and featuring people who have experienced Miraculous Moments.  Could that be you?  I’m looking for people that have had a challenge of some kind and SOMETHING miraculous happened that gave you clarity, have a synchronistic meeting, something that just assisted you to shift your perspective and trajectory.

If you have a story to share, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Meanwhile:  EXPLORE:  What miracles can you identify in your life right now.  OBSERVE – Take a look around.  What miracles can you see?  How did that tree know to grow?  The flowers in your yard?  The computer you are using to read this email? APPRECIATE – Appreciate the miracles and blessings you have in your life RIGHT NOW.  CELEBRATE – the miracles that already exist and the ones coming your way.

We’ve all had challenges.  We’ve all experienced a very different and challenging 18 months.  And, unfortunately, we are not yet ‘out of the woods.’

We never know how much time we have on this earth and its important to notice, create and experience our miraculous moments.  They are there. They have always been there.

Now it’s time to pay attention.

What are you noticing?

I’d love to hear from you!
