I love hearing how couples meet. I love hearing about the conversations they had that made them decide to explore a relationship with each other. And, of course, I really love to hear how they keep the love alive.
Last year, as I mentioned before, good friends of mine had a mini intervention with me, encouraging me to ‘get out there’ again. I won’t bore you with the loving words they shared with me, and a few suggestions, but I realized I had become too comfortable in my single lifestyle. I knew I would be in a relationship one day, but with moving to California, jump-starting my business in a new community, and simply doing what it takes to make a new home…time literally slipped away. And, it’s amazing how quickly time passes by.
This week I got to celebrate the end of another birth year, and the birth of a new one. I must admit, I don’t put much emphasis on age, but the numbers are looking larger and larger J. But as my uncle always said, “It beats the alternative.” And, especially in honor of my father, who passed away at the young age of 56,
I ALWAYS deeply appreciate the gift of life.
Not wanting any more time to pass, I dusted myself off and decided to begin connecting with men.
My friends encouraged me to go online, which I had some resistance about. I did not believe I could meet the quality of man I would be interested in, or them with me.
Well, I certainly got a fast education. I had been completely wrong.
Yes, there were men that I connected with online that were not a match for me. And, yes, it was very obvious. For example, at this time of my life, I’m wasn’t interested in getting involved with someone 15 years older than me. And I would always thank someone for reaching out to me and wishing them good fortune on finding love.
Then I actually had my first date. In fact, my first day ‘back on the horse’ I had two dates. Both were very high quality men, but I knew that they were not a fit for me.
Then the next day I had another date. This man was also of high quality, very youthful for his age, but he wasn’t interested in me. And I was ok with that, as well. He would have been nice to spend time with, but I knew that we were not the best fit for each other, ultimately.
Then I met a wonderful man who had much of what I was looking for in a relationship. Unfortunately, I was not a fit for him. Yes, it stung a bit.
But, I dusted myself off, and got back on the horse.
Then there was a man online that I saw that peaked my interest. And, shy me, reached out to him. And that was the man whom I share my life and time with today.
So it only took 5 other men and 9 dates, before I hit the jackpot with #6 on my 10th date.
I don’t know about you, but that was minimal investment of my time and my ‘returns’ have been significant.
